My Facebook post

In 2014 United States government spending was around 41.6% of GDP.  Now it is around 36%.  Spending hasn't gone down, but GDP has gone up.  That is a good thing.

Total government spending is around 6.7 trillion dollars.  With a population of 318.9 million, that works out to over $21,000 for every man, woman and child.

My question is at what point does government spending seem like it is too much?  When it is 40% of GDP?  How about 50 or 60%?

And does it make sense that the government needs to spend $84,000 for every family of four?

Best wishes,

John Coffey
