This is a grim subject matter. I don't agree with people ending their life except under extreme circumstances when it would be merciful. This is how Sigmund Freud died with the help of his physician. I think a better response would be to tell the man to wait until he was much closer to dying, when it would also be legal in his state.
It is possible that within the next year there could be better treatments. It is not likely, but it is possible. Where there is life there is hope.
