Dinesh D'Souza: Netflix’s New Feminist Series “The Queen’s Gambit” Needs a Heavy Dose of Reality

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFy4VzhWtEw

I find the name Dinesh D'Souza on the U.S. Chess Federation website.  I don't know if this is the same person because it could be a common Indian name, and a great many people from India play chess.   The membership of the person on the USCF website expired in 2005 and he lived in California where Dinesh D'Souza also lived at the time so it could be the same person.

In response to the video I wrote the following comment:

"Speaking as someone who is barely ranked at the Expert level, I think that men and women have different inclinations toward competitive sports, where chess is a somewhat ego-driven sport. Women by their nature prefer activities that are more cooperative. Studies have shown that women are less inclined to engage in analytical thinking even though they are equally capable of it.

I haven't watched the show yet, but my concern is that Hollywood movies are full of heroes who rise to the top with little or no effort.  This is not reality, and chess is an incredibly difficult game to master."

Five Ways Joe Biden "Blew Our Minds" On Election Night (Satire)

There are a great many statistical reasons why the election looks fishy.  Add to this the claim that there are hundreds of pages of affidavits of election workers and observers swearing that there was election fraud.

Although time is running out, I'm looking forward to the evidence being presented in court.  This likely will end up a bust because the claims could be exaggerated or hard to prove.  I'm not optimistic, but hopeful.

It seems unlikely that the Republicans could be winning elections all over the place, including picking up 10 seats in Congress and still lose the Presidential election.  This would mean that a great many people chose to vote Republican, but also chose to switch their presidential choice to Biden, despite him being the most comatose candidate in history.  The odds of this would depend upon which states the Republicans picked up Congressional seats.  It would also depend on which districts, which is more analysis than I want to get into right now.  Maybe somebody in the media can figure this out.

I did not believe that given the existential threat the Left posed with the riots, lawlessness, and shutdowns, that the country would even remotely consider voting for the Left.  If this is the case, then we have entered a new political era where Leftist idealogy is the new normal.

If a great many people were convinced that Trump stole the election in 2016 and that Trump is some sort of orange Hitler, then they might have felt morally justified in fudging the election this time.  It would only take a handful of counties in the right states.

Regardless of whether or not it is true, I think that people will be arguing this issue for years to come.  I expect to see one or more books roughly titled, "How the Left stole the election."  Some people might even make a good case for it.

I hope that this leads to some sort of election reform where we can be certain that the result is an honest one.

FDA will consider Pfizer vaccine for emergency use on December 10th | Fox Business

The Food & Drug Administration announced Friday that its committee on vaccines will meet Dec. 10th to review Pfizer's request for emergency use authorization (EUA) of its Covid-19 vaccine.

This comes two days after Pfizer, with their German partner BioNTech, released promising final results that show their vaccine is 95% effective and protects elderly adults who are most at risk of dying. Pfizer had submitted the EUA request earlier in the day Friday.

An FDA spokesperson told FOX Business the three-week window is necessary because "this amount of time will allow the FDA to thoroughly evaluate the data and information submitted in the EUA request before the meeting.

I was hoping for faster.

What If Yellowstone's Supervolcano Erupted? | RealClearScience

https://www.realclearscience.com/blog/2019/10/10/what_if_yellowstones_supervolcano_erupted.html

Yellowstone super volcano eruptions are rare and one is not predicted to happen in the next few thousand years. I read that smaller eruptions are more likely than bigger ones.

I suspect that in the event of a big eruption, the safest place to be (or head to) would be Florida. It might be safer to stay indoors. According to one site, the ash fallout in Indiana would be just a few millimeters, and extend down to the southern states like Georgia.

However, the ash contains silicates that can damage your lungs. You would want to have protective breathing gear.

A major eruption would severely damage the environment, causing crop failures worldwide.

There would be massive loss of life in the western states. The last major eruption, around 700,000 years ago, wiped out all the animal life in the neighboring states. The entire western half of the country would be in danger, as well as parts of Canada and Mexico.

Chinese Soldiers Storm Beach in Military Landing Drill Amid Taiwan War Tension

The Chinese Navy released footage of a simulated beach assault on Tuesday as state media says President Xi Jinping is preparing for wars on multiple fronts.

Chinese Communist Party newspaper Global Times also voiced its support for the release of a so-called "Taiwan secessionists" blacklist, just two weeks after a former Taiwanese intelligence officer warned that such an announcement would be a precursor of a cross-strait armed conflict.

Moderna's coronavirus vaccine is 94.5% effective, according to company data - CNN

Pfizer's vaccine has to be kept at minus 75 degrees Celsius. No other vaccine in the US needs to be kept that cold, and doctors' offices and pharmacies do not have freezers that go that low.

Moderna's vaccine can be kept at minus 20 degrees Celsius. Other vaccines, such as the one against chickenpox, need to be kept at that temperature.

That means Moderna's vaccine can be kept in "a readily available freezer that is available in most doctors' offices and pharmacies," Zacks said. "We leverage infrastructure that already exists for other marketed vaccines."

We’ll Need More Than One Vaccine to Beat the Pandemic

But this is the first mRNA vaccine, and it turns out to be a precious little snowflake. Pfizer's vaccine has to be stored and shipped at ultracold temperatures, less than 80 degrees below zero—it'll keep for a few days at higher but still very cold conditions. And it needs vials made of a special glass that's able to tolerate the freezing temperatures.

All that shipping and freezing requires a level of technical sophistication that, for now at least, mostly exists in hospitals and labs—posing significant logistical challenges in rural areas and in the developing world. These are the "cold chain" problems that Koff mentioned, the problem of refrigerated shipping. (A critical Ebola vaccine needs the same deep freeze, and engineers stepped up to create specialized coolers to transport it across western Africa—but that was a pandemic that affected tens of thousands of people, not billions, and the people who made the coolers have since gotten out of the cold-chain innovation game.)

North Carolina Democrats: 'Thousands of outstanding votes to be cast' could swing races | Fox News

An eyebrow-raising tweet from North Carolina Democrats claimed Monday that "thousands of outstanding votes to be cast" could swing key races in the battleground state.

North Carolina is one of at least 18 states allowing voters to "cure" ballots rejected for deficient information or missing signatures. Democrats in the state say they're seeking volunteers to help cure absentee and provisional ballots that they think could prove decisive in some races.

"Our team is helping cure absentee & provisional ballots -- and we need your help. There are thousands of outstanding votes to be cast -- and these could be the difference in determining crucial elections," the North Carolina Democratic Party wrote in a tweet Monday.

Stealing an election and the Electoral College

Many people think that Trump is trying to steal the election, and from what I can tell the vast majority on the right think that the Democrats are trying to steal the election with voter fraud. I don't think that either of these statements is true. I think that there could have been some minor voter fraud, but not enough that we could overturn the election.

However, I won't be satisfied until we have verified many of the results. Recounts need to happen in close states. We need to know that the election laws are being followed.

I'm not trying to get anyone agitated here. I don't want to stir the pot. I just think that the election is so important that we should verify the results.

I notice that Biden's lead in some of these states that haven't been fully counted is very thin.

Also:

I have favored the Electoral College because I understand the historical reasons for it. However, it seems to turn the election into a carnival. It feels like a slot machine, where if you get two jackpots, a cherry, and a lemon then you lose. It creates contention in close states and it is pretty much only these states that decide the election.

Presidential candidates don't campaign much or at all in some states because we already know the result.

Maybe the system has outlived its usefulness.

Determining the presidency by popular vote could possibly hand the presidency to the political left for decades to come. We would become a one-party system unless the political right shifts left, which they would have to do to win elections. However, I think that this is bad for freedom. Nevertheless, it might be worth doing. It is possible that the popular vote could shift back to the right.

Some have argued that the Electoral College is a defense against voter fraud because voter fraud would only affect one state and not the whole country. I'm not sure about that.

I think that the United States people should decide whether or not to keep the Electoral College. We should have a referendum.

Pfizer’s Early Data Shows Coronavirus Vaccine Is More Than 90% Effective - The New York Times

The company said that the analysis found that the vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in preventing the disease among trial volunteers who had no evidence of prior coronavirus infection. If the results hold up, that level of protection would put it on par with highly effective childhood vaccines for diseases such as measles. No serious safety concerns have been observed, the company said.

Pfizer plans to ask the Food and Drug Administration for emergency authorization of the two-dose vaccine later this month, after it has collected the recommended two months of safety data. By the end of the year it will have manufactured enough doses to immunize 15 million to 20 million people, company executives have said.

"This is a historical moment," said Kathrin Jansen, a senior vice president and the head of vaccine research and development at Pfizer. "This was a devastating situation, a pandemic, and we have embarked on a path and a goal that nobody ever has achieved — to come up with a vaccine within a year."

Trump and the socialist left

Many of us see the socialist left as the end of the United States as founded. We see it as the end of any kind of protection of our rights as free individuals. There will be no limited government, as the government will be all-powerful to do anything it wants to us. (The clear limitations on Federal power in the Constitution have long since been ignored.) Add to this, if Joe Biden does everything he promised, which I doubt, it will lead us to financial ruin.

For these reasons, many of us looked to Donald Trump as a kind of savior figure to resist the possibly inevitable tide of ever excessive government. There is a reason why Trump supporters are so dedicated to this man.

Where the election stands at this minute.

Biden's lead in Georgia is currently .09%, with reportedly only 1% of the vote remaining to be counted. People are claiming that the uncounted military vote will give Georgia back to Trump.

It probably doesn't matter, because even if Trump were to win Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, it would not be enough to win without Arizona or Nevada.

Pennsylvania seems unlikely. Biden leads by only 0.3%, but with only 2% of the vote remaining to be counted, the trend has been strongly in Biden's favor.

Arizona has 235,000 remaining votes to be counted. Biden leads by roughly 36,800 votes.

I'm not sure how up to date the numbers are, but there are roughly 185,600 votes remaining in Nevada, and Biden leads by about 33,000 votes.

Whitlock: The 2020 Presidential Election Is A Story Of Love Vs. Hate

A blind unconditional love of their leader fuels the energy and action of Trump supporters. They risk their health (maskless rallies), reputation (accusations of racism and sexism), and safety (social media and Antifa harassment) to stand with their hero.

A blind unconditional hatred of President Trump fuels the energy and action of Biden supporters. Their leader's ideas, policies, and resume are irrelevant. Biden is a tool to kill the Trump presidency. Nothing more.

I am not arguing that unconditional love of Trump is proper or healthy. I'm arguing that Trump and Biden supporters are tapping into two distinct energy sources.

Update on the numbers

I am updating my calculations from earlier today, and overall it does not look good for Trump.

By my calculation, in Arizona to win the state, Trump needs roughly 56.9% of the remaining 10% of the vote compared to the previous 58.8% of the remaining 12% of the vote . According to an earlier CNN report, he is getting roughly 59%. How they know this I'm not sure. However, it seems like Arizona is still in play.

In Nevada Trump needs 52.5% of the remaining 16% of the vote, compared to the previous 51% of the 25% of the vote.  As I predicted, Nevada is not going his way.

In Pennsylvania, Biden needs roughly 51.8% of the remaining 10% of the vote to win the state, compared to the previous 56% of the remaining 13% of the vote.

In his speech yesterday, Biden claimed that he would win 75% of the remaining vote in Pennsylvania because they are counting mostly mail-in ballots. If Biden does win Pennsylvania then it is over.

All of a sudden Georgia is almost tied.  Trump's lead has shrunk to 1,800 votes with just 1% of the vote remaining to be counted, about 49,000 votes.  In theory, Biden could win Georgia.

Sometime tomorrow most of the counting should be close to 100%.

Voter Fraud?

Just to be clear, most Republicans are absolutely convinced that Democrats will use the massive number of mail-in ballots to cheat in the election.

PA Secretary of State Boockvar holds election update press conference:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoxU1pWtWFs

My only problem with Pennsylvania is that their state supreme court said that late ballots must be counted regardless of whether it has no postmark or a late postmark, as long as it is in by Friday.  This means that people could still vote today if they wanted to.  This violates Pennsylvania election law.  This definitely should be challenged in court if mail-in ballots cause Trump to lose Pennsylvania.

How states could flip.

By my calculation, Trump needs roughly 58.8% of the remaining 12% of the vote in Arizona to win the state.  According to CNN, he was getting 59% and a fraction. How they know that I'm not sure.  It seems like the state is still in play.

In Nevada Trump needs 51% of the remaining 25% of the vote.  My feeling is that Nevada will lean Democrat based on some recent state elections.

In Pennsylvania, Biden needs roughly 56% of the remaining 13% of the vote to win the state.  In his speech yesterday, Biden claimed that he would win 75% of the remaining vote in Pennsylvania because they are counting mostly mail-in ballots.  If Biden does win Pennsylvania then it is over.

We should see results soon.  The earliest we will know Pennsylvania is tomorrow.

Pollster who called 2016 for Trump says he'll win again

Donald Trump, Counterrevolutionary - American Greatness

We are in the midst of a cultural revolution, for the most part driven by angry middle-and upper-class white youth of Antifa and its sympathizers, wannabes, and enablers. Many are humiliated that they have college pedigrees, lots of multi thousand-dollar debt, plenty of woke-studies classes to their credit, but still have no real jobs, no real knowledge, and no real immediate chances of buying a house, marrying, and raising a family in their 20s.

Nothing in history is more dangerous than the underemployed wannabe intellectual or college graduate, whose cultivated sense of superiority is not matched by his income or standard of living, but who blames "them" for his own self-inflicted miseries and unappreciated genius.

The revolution toppled statues, renamed what it did not like, Trotskyized the past, photoshopped the present, and used language, government, and cultural intimidation to do its best to make America into Animal Farm.

Corporate CEOs in terror washed the feet of the woke. University presidents, fearful for their status and careers, wrote incomprehensible memos admitting their past sins and asking how best to do present penance. Hollywood studio owners promised race and gender quotas, with ample provisions that—in the manner of NBA and NFL owners—adjustments and exceptions could be worked out for themselves.

Somewhere, somehow graduations, dorms, and campus spaces, all segregated by race, became "liberal." Intermarriage, integration, and assimilation were shamefully illiberal. Standing for the National Anthem was unpatriotic; sitting in disdain for it, cool. Donald Trump fought that revolution too.

What tools did Donald Trump have to wage these many counterrevolutions?

The media? America's Fortune 400? Academia? The great foundations? The nation's think tanks? The bipartisan government establishment? The international community? The banks? Wall Street? Corporate CEOs? Silicon Valley? Professional sports? The entertainment industry? Hollywood? The intelligence community? The current and retired top military brass?

In fact, none of them. All had joined or enabled the revolution, on the theory either that their wealth and influence would shield them and their own from its excesses, or like naïve Kerenskyites their status would impress and win over even those who targeted them, or they were inner revolutionaries themselves all along, just waiting to be freed at last by BLM and Antifa.

Against all that money and clout, the counterrevolutionary Trump had only one asset, the proverbial people. He had solely the under-polled and the written-off. They came out to his rallies in the tens of thousands, deluded the pollsters, and told the media less than nothing, but voted and will vote in waves to save America from what it was becoming.

The Subversion of America & The US Election

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0Vx6gS2vAE

I am familiar with the author.  She has been frequently attacked for making a documentary about the downsides of mass immigration in Europe.

United States Presidential Election 2016 and 2020

Four years ago on election day, I had resigned myself to Hilary Clinton becoming President. The early morning prediction from a presumably authoritarian source claimed that she had a 96% chance of winning. Around 6 PM I started streaming the major networks, especially CBS which seemed like it had the best coverage.

Only a few results were in by 8 PM, at which time Donald Trump had a lead. My thinking was that this small lead would be obliterated by the large west coast states. By 9 PM it looked like the race could be very close. Trump was still in the lead, but many polls had not been fully counted nor closed yet. However, the network anchors were expressing concern and were looking worried. By 10 PM they were expressing outrage and wondering how could this have happened? They weren't giving the election to Trump yet, but they acknowledged that Hillary was going to have to win most of the remaining races to win the election.

There was a dry spell from 10 PM to 2 AM. Results were coming in very slowly or not at all. I gave up around 1:30 AM because I didn't want to be too sleep-deprived. I had no idea how much longer this was going to take. I went to bed not knowing for sure who won.

Of course, we know who won. The question is could this happen again? Despite what the polls say, I have been arguing for about 3 weeks that Trump is actually winning. The polls don't necessarily reflect who actually votes. There is an enthusiasm gap between the two candidates. Certain recent polls have moved in Trump's direction. Not enough to say that he is winning, but it is hard, very hard, for me to see how the country could elect someone like Joe Biden for a whole bunch of reasons that are already known to most people, so I don't need to restate them here.

We won't know until at least election night, and it may take several more days to sort it all out. Add court challenges and this process could take weeks.
