Claudia Christian on "The Sinclair Method" for treating alcoholism

I'm not a doctor so I can't make any recommendations, but I think that this video is interesting and it might work for some people.

Claudia Christian was an actress on the TV show "Babylon 5".  A remarkable number of actors on that show are now dead.  Jerry Doyle from alcoholism.  Jeff Conway from addiction.  Andreas Katsulas from smoking.  Some other people died from natural causes.

Shanghai Locks Workers in Factories Amid Covid Scare

Study reveals some brain changes, even in mild COVID-19 | CIDRAP

The study authors noted that the imaging differences between the two groups were modest, at about 2% of average baseline values. The typical annual loss of gray matter each year due to aging, the researchers said, is 0.2% to 0.3%.

Cognitive tests identified differences between COVID-19 survivors and controls, including a significant increase in the time taken to complete Trails A (numeric; 7.8%) and B (alphanumeric; 12.2%) of the Trail Making Test in COVID-19 participants. These results held true when excluding the 15 hospitalized patients (Trail A, 6.5%; Trail B, 12.5%).

"The infected participants also showed on average larger cognitive decline between the two timepoints," the study authors wrote. "Importantly, these imaging and cognitive longitudinal effects were still seen after excluding the 15 cases who had been hospitalised."

Not all COVID survivors have brain changes

In addition to the modest COVID-19 effect, the study authors noted that the statistics represent an average effect, meaning that not every COVID-19 survivor will experience brain changes.

Carlsen on Karjakin: “These types of attitudes can't be accepted”

https://chess24.com/en/read/news/carlsen-on-karjakin-these-types-of-attitudes-can-t-be-accepted

I don't have to agree with Karjakin and Karjakin doesn't have to agree with me.  That is how free speech works.  Otherwise, you are living in some sort of tyranny where you aren't allowed to have an opinion.

Re: The Great Delusion with Professor John Mearsheimer

I realized that this is the same guy that I criticized because of a previous video.  (Bottom.)  He blames the West for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

However, his presentation here is very interesting.  He argues that we should be more about the balance of power than trying to make other countries like us.  He appears to value stability over freedom.

However, I have much sympathy for people living under oppression.

I have long leaned toward the idea of liberating Cuba, although I consider it highly unlikely that we would ever do this.  According to the video, we just would get ourselves involved in a quagmire.  If hypothetically we were to liberate Cuba then our goal should be to establish a stable government and get out.  I would offer them statehood, but according to the video, people everywhere are highly nationalistic and prefer to have their own state.

The relevant question is if we are wrong to try to encourage Democracy and free markets in other countries?  I think not, but if it involves an invasion force and war then probably so.  After 9-11, I think that we were correct to go into Afghanistan, but the invasion of Iraq was far more questionable.

I get into arguments over World War I and World War II.  If war broke out in Europe today, why would we want to get involved?

This video is from 2015, but relevant.

John J. Mearsheimer is a Bernie Sanders supporter.  He even sounds a tiny bit like him.  I don't trust him to be objective.

He repeatedly quotes the Monroe Doctrine as a rationalization for his position.  In 2013, two years before this video, Secretary of State John Kerry declared that the Monroe Doctrine is dead.

I agree with him when he says that Ukraine is not in the National Interest of the United States.

He makes claims to the effect that Russia does not want to build a greater Russia and would not want to get involved in the quagmire of an invasion of Ukraine, which seem to be disproven by current events.

I assumed that Putin's security concerns were just an excuse for invasion, but this video gives some legitimacy to Putin's concern.  Nevertheless, Ukraine is an independent country that should be allowed to decide its own alliances.  If it wants to be part of Europe then it is not the right of Russia to block this.

Comparing Ukraine possibly joining NATO, which wasn't even on the table, to the Cuban Missile Crisis is to equivocate two things that are not the same.  It is a poor comparison.

Therefore, this invasion is an unjustified aggressive event.  It has caused a seismic shift in world politics.  Europe is rapidly trying to distance itself from Russia.  Germany has changed its position on where it gets its energy and is contemplating embracing Nuclear Energy again after having closed all its nuclear plants.

There is a possibility that Putin will get the opposite of everything he wants.  I have been predicting a coup in Russia, possibly a military coup followed by a temporary military government.  Reportedly, the Russian military is not happy with this invasion, nor is the public.

Climate Change Is NOT An Emergency — Here Are The Facts

Fearing US Will OVERTHROW the Regime, China’s Communist Party Begins Nuclear Buildup

Opinion | What I wish I’d known when I was 19 and had sex reassignment surgery

I may well have transitioned even after waiting a few years. If I hadn't transitioned, I likely would have suffered from the world in other ways. In other words, I'm still working out how much regret to feel, but I'm comfortable with the ambiguity.

What advice would I pass on to young people seeking transition? Learning to fit in your body is a common struggle. Fad diets, body-shaping clothing and cosmetic surgery are all signs that countless millions of people at some point have a hard time accepting their own reflection. The prospect of sex can be intimidating. But sex is essential in healthy relationships. Give it a chance before permanently altering your body.

Most of all, slow down. You may yet decide to make the change. But if you explore the world by inhabiting your body as it is, perhaps you'll find that you love it more than you thought possible.

This is an interesting take.

It should be noted that I don't trust the motives of the other side because I've seen way too much crap from them. Maybe they feel the same way about my side.

I always ask myself what if I am wrong? I don't see things as absolute black and white, but more as a gradient. I try very hard to understand the arguments of the other side.

However, my observation of many people who would otherwise think the same way that I do is that they respond with sound bytes about how evil the other side is. I don't see much evidence that they have really analyzed the issues.

Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

I just watched a Netflix drama about Operation Anthropoid. A couple of paratroopers assassinated Nazi officer Reinhard Heydrich, who had it coming because he was a bad dude, but they didn't seem to have much regard for the consequences of their actions. Not only were they killed, along with all their collaborators, but what little that remained of the Czechoslovakian resistance was wiped out. Then the Nazis killed 5,000 Czechoslovakians in retaliation.

Was it really so important to kill just one man?

The Simpsons And The American Man: Bart Simpson Is The American Man

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a29895/simpsons-and-the-american-man-bart/

Some episodes of the Simpsons are more entertaining than others.  It is a series that I sort of liked, but never went out of my way to watch.

These days, I'm not sure how to define "The American Man".   We are a divided culture.  We are a mix of old and new, but the culture as a whole feels aimless.

Why It's OK To Use "They" as a Singular Pronoun | Word Genius

'Today, many style guides accept the singular "they," and the Oxford English Dictionary — perhaps the most definitive dictionary — also stands behind it. Some grammarians still don't accept its use for the singular, but this doesn't mean that the use of it is grammatically incorrect. Instead, it's just another example of language rules taking some time to catch up to the ways that the language is being used.'

The perversion of language is a ruse to allow power-hungry people to control your behavior.  If you don't pay lip service to their beliefs then you are denounced viciously as some sort of bigot.

To be clear, if I man wants to pretend that he is a woman then that is his problem.  However, they will not leave us alone.  Jordan Peterson had his job threatened for his opposition to required speech codes.  An actress that I liked,  Gina Carano, who was in the Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian, got into trouble on her Twitter feed for refusing to call people by their preferred pronouns.  This led to a several-month-long internet campaign to get Disney to fire her, which Disney eventually did.  She was scheduled to star in a new Disney Star Wars spin-off series that also was canceled because of this incident.  The talent agency that represented her also dropped her.  The mob has the power to ruin people's lives.

Thinking that this was some sort of injustice, The Daily Wire hired Gina Carano to be in an upcoming movie that they are making.

Watch "This Is A F*cking Disgrace" on YouTube

Russel Brand is an extreme liberal.   He quotes the Guardian, which by American standards is a pretty left-wing newspaper. At the end of the video, he apparently calls for the elimination of capitalism.  Maybe he just means the energy sector.  However, if you look at other countries that have state-run energy sectors, they are a disaster.

He throws around a bunch of numbers that emotionally sound impressive.  However, the money supply has expanded, which is the true definition of inflation, by 42% in just barely over 2 years!

This inflation robs everyone.  This could wipe out my retirement.

Not only would I expect prices to go up, but I would not expect profit to remain at the same monetary level, which is a net loss, but to rise proportionally.

Prices are determined by supply and demand.  If a company tries to profit in a particular area, then so will other companies.  Competition will take over, although things can get temporarily out of whack and the market takes time to catch up.

It is not true that the Biden administration has let corporations off the hook for inflation.  They have been blaming everything except the monetary supply for inflation, including "greedy corporations", and they want to reinstate the windfall profits tax.  If the Biden administration removed an attack on business from a speech, then either it doesn't have much traction or it is not a sound idea.

People equate corporations with rich people, but the two are not the same.  About 37 trillion dollars of stock are in United States retirement funds, a minuscule portion of which is in my retirement fund.  Corporations are a way to democratize business, allowing business ownership to people who otherwise would not be able to own businesses.

I've seen this before, but it is still interesting.

I'm sure that there is enough real history that people don't have to create fictional history.
