Why Trump's Intel Deal Breaks with American Tradition

If the government subsidizes businesses, should it also obtain a stake in those businesses? That might make sense, but in principle, the government shouldn't be subsidizing businesses at all. Doing so interferes with the free market. However, there is a clear national security interest in ensuring that computer chips are manufactured in the United States.  However, Trump wants to do this with many more businesses.

I don't understand how Trump can claim that flag burners will be thrown into prison for a year. The Supreme Court has already ruled that flag burning is a form of symbolic speech and therefore protected by the First Amendment. Since Trump doesn't have the power to make laws, this sounds more like a political stunt. If it isn't just a stunt, then it amounts to an authoritarian attack on free speech.

I don't think it's good for someone to burn the American flag, but it doesn't harm me personally. What people really dislike about flag burning is that it signals hostility toward America or strong opposition to government policy. But we can't legislate people's opinions. No law will make everyone agree with us, nor should we try to force them.

There is an argument that flag burning is an incitement to violence, in which case it should be the incitement to violence that should be illegal.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but the Italian Fascists, specifically Benito Mussolini, used the phrase "Everything in the State, nothing outside the State".  More specifically they said,  "Everything within the State, nothing against the State, nothing outside the State".

Trump's policies lack any ideological consistency.  He can only barely be called a conservative.  Can we say for sure what Trump's ideology is?   Although Trump seems like a force for good, I'm concerned about where he might be headed.  He is walking along the edge of authoritarianism.

On top of that, Trump rambles so much and for so long that he undermines himself. He constantly airs his grievances. His "ideology" often seems personal rather than principled. His ramblings come across as immature, and I've grown tired of listening to him.
