Sometimes you have to take a stand or nothing gets fixed. People continue to suffer.
I have advocated a slowly increasing tariff on Chinese goods until they are willing to respect some human rights. We can adapt. The only value China has to us is cheap labor. We can find other countries with cheap labor, for example, Mexico, or rely more on automation. Besides, China would probably cave eventually.

Most people agree in principle. However, not enough are willing to put any "skin in the game". I agree that China (as well as many other countries) have atrocious records concerning human rights. Nevertheless, I continue to buy consumer products from these countries. If we try too hurt China by no longer buying their products we hurt everyone involved in manufacturing, logistics and sales of these products. Cut China and we all bleed. On Mon, Jul 11, 2022 at 2:40 PM John wrote:It should be obvious that evil exists in the world. China comes to mind.
The one and possibly only thing that I agree with Jimmy Carter on is that we should insist on Human Rights when dealing with other countries. There is too much human suffering, and too many people willing to inflict that suffering.
